Hey Kath I went to Ancestor.com and it was pretty cool. I didn't start the 14 day trial but I messed with it a little bit. Geneology is very important to me as well and would love to see what you have. That's what I wanted this to be is a 'getting to know you' type of blog. Let me know how to find you on that site. my email address is andibh32@hotmail.com
I think back to my fathers passing and can't help but get angry that he didn't have life insurance. Since I am in the Life Insurance industry it is even more repulsive that I didn't make sure he was covered. It was a great funeral but the stress and worry about money sure sucked. If anyone that reads this blog doesn't have life insurance or at least $10k in the bank then we need to talk.
I talked to my mom about it the other day and I think because the subject is not fun at all to think about people generally are very naive about it. Term insurance is the only way to go and invest money in a Roth IRA or other investment vehicle that will allow you to become financially free.
Also don't think that you are ok because you have insurance through work. My dad is a great example of someone who if he were an employee and had insurance through work that policy would not have payed. Generally speaking after a few months of leave you become considered unemployed and permanent disability kicks in. Most benefits from the company go away. Check with your HR Department to find out all the facts on your benefits from work.
My 4 year old Aiden, for the last month in his prayers has kept asking Heavenly Father for "Grandpa to get better and not be sick anymore" it is very cute. He loved grandpa. I have explained to him that grandpa is better now and with Jesus. I don't know if he fully understands it but he will figure it out.

Well I found my external hard drive. It had been missing since the move into our new house. I found it in the garage after some searching. I needed it for work. I was going through the files and forgot that I had stored a bunch of pictures. On it were some of my dad. I have to admit they made me smile. Then I started missing him again.
I also found a book that he gave me. It was a great treasure hunt that day. The book he gave me is a book of geneology that my cousin Don Harris gave me. It had some great pictures in it and I am happy to have it. I love my family name. I love where I come from. We have a great history. Not at all perfect by any means but for the great majority of the history that I know we Harris' are good people. I look forward to knowing more of the stories. I told Aunt Madeline about the blog but I don't think she has been here. I want to hear some stories that I don't know. One thing that the funeral opened up is that there is a whole life that my father led that not only did I not know about but I wasn't remotely involved in it. His relationships with Kathy and her kids. I saw pictures that were seemingly good times that I knew nothing about. Hope to know some.

Wow how time fly's bye. It's been a week already since the funeral. I love the memories of him that are with me constantly. I don't like the feelings like today when I actually grabbed my phone to give him a call to tell him something before I realized that I couldn't do that on the phone. I just talked to him instead. I feel him sometimes around me. I don't know if that makes sense to people or not. Maybe it's just my psyche.
Here's the first memory that I will share about him. I am not sure where we were but we were camping. I was quite young and he took Wade and I fishing. I was on the shore and saw a bunch of little baby fish swimming around and a bigger fish that was there too. I called my dad over to me and he told me it was a school of fish. I thought that was pretty cool that fish had school too and they even had a teacher in the bigger fish. I told him that and he just chuckled at that. He had a great laugh.
I hope someone leaves a note on here sometime. I see that I have two people following the blog now. That's cool. Hi

Funeral
Hello all. I wanted to start this blog as a way for me and my family to get to know more about my dad and the Great Harris Clan that we are. It was very apparent at my father's funeral that there are a lot of wonderful people that I don't know very well but would love to know and know more about.
There are stories that need to be shared and passed along for posterity. I will be working on this and would love everyone's help on making this blog successful. Please pass the information on to parents and grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins....you get the point.
I would love for pictures and stories to be posted on here so that people can see where they came from. I think far too much history has been bottled up. It needs to be shared.
